3rd Grade Fire Safety Poster Contest

The 3rd grade class at Prairie Valley Elementary has been working on graphic art skills of balance, line, color, shape, and center of attention.  The theme for the art work was ,'Have 2 Ways Out' and involved creating a poster for a 'Fire Safety' contest.  The school is fortunate to have several fine volunteer fire departments and many parents and community members are trained volunteer fire fighters.  Thank you to the local Fire Departments for hosting and giving support to this contest.  The following three posters were selected to go to the state competition.  Student names will be posted at a later date.

Well the winners were Tatum 1st place, Lucas 2nd, and Jayden  3rd.  The posters were judged by three members of staff and fire fighters families.  The area fire chiefs came and surprised the students with the awards and then a picture was taken for the paper.  Some very excited students.  The posters have been sent to the state competition and we will await word of how they did.  All posters will be displayed in the elementary building for parents and community to view.

Cave Art

Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students at Prairie Valley Elementary studied prehistoric cave paintings called "Black Bull.  They were created by an unknown artist and are thousands of years old.  The students studied a few of the drawings, discussed how they were made, and wondered who made them and why.  They decided there might of been more than one artist and that they painted them to make the cave pretty on a rainy day.
The students then created their own cave paintings using crumpled paper sacks, charcoal and chalk pastels and then covered one wall of the art room with their creations.  I have included a couple examples of the original cave art but make sure you really enjoy the cave art interpertitations that the 5 and 6 year old artist created...I know I enjoy them more!!!!

5th and 6th Grade Carnival Masks

What do you think?  The 5th and 6th Prairie Valley Elementary Students worked very hard and showed how creative they could be when designing their carnival masks.  The 5th graders investigated Mardis Gras and fashioned their masks with that in mind.  The 6th graders investigated a festival from the Bahamas called Junkanoo.  They used cardboard, crepe paper, feathers, glitter, and anything else they could find or bring in from home.  Both classes got to show off their creations during a school wide Fall Festival.
